    alopecia areata is well defined bald patches that occur. The bald areas are usually round or oval and are located on the head or other hairy parts of the body and often clears in 6-12 months without treatment. Recurrences are common and normal. Can be caused by many different reasons like normal aging, endocrine disorder, drug reaction, anticancer medications, stress or skin disease. There are many different types of alopecia also.
