Having you hair slowly fall out is a F_UKING NIGHTMARE, let me tell you! My situation is that I am slowly getting a “hairless” part on back of my head, (which is the classic hairloss i think?)most of the hairloss on back of head, so the bald spot is slowly but surely forming. Can science do anything about this?? I tried rogaine once for about 2 weeks but it made my face get all puffy so i quit using it)

any help or advice???

Question by chinesechickenbauk: Is it alright to shave my head when I am using rogaine or should I let my hair grow out?
I have alopecia areta. I keep my head shaved, but should I let it grow out or would rogaine not interfere if I shave. I use the foam.

Best answer:

Answer by hairbender
The foam is easier to apply with a shaved head. I don’t think shaving is going to matter one way or another.

The effectiveness of Rogaine is another question, and I don’t want to get into that. However, I will say that you really need to see results before continuing use. They are not cheap, and I think the only thing growing is someone else’s bank account, and not your hair.

Alopecia areata is caused by other things, and you really need to get THAT looked after first. The hair loss is only a symptom of other things going on in your body. Spending money on the outside is not the answer.

Answer by izzy
I don’t think anyone is 100% sure wahat causes it.
“The most widely accepted hypothesis is that alopecia areata is a T-cell–mediated autoimmune condition that is most likely to occur in genetically predisposed individuals.”

Options, no treatment (it sometimes resolves on it’s own), steroid injections, steroid creams to apply locally, using Minoxidil on it’s own or with steroids.
You need to talk to your docor,

Question by Who’s sarcastic?: Can a spider bite on the head cause hair loss?
I have a large bald spot on the back of my head right above my neck. The doc said it was not connected with my pregnancy (I had a baby 7 months ago).. It itches often and there seem to be some bumps in it. If I got a bite of some sort, could it cause hair loss?

Best answer:

Answer by michele
My first guess would be tinea capitis (i.e., ringworm: the same fungus that causes athletes foot if on your feet can cause hairloss if on your scalp). Worth exploring.

Check the following website to see if this describes your lesion:
