I have the condition Alopecia areata where hair loss is involved.
if i go to my regular doctor and tell him about it, will he prescribe meds to me? are those meds healthy and wont do harm to my body or skin or hair or anything?

and will it help grow my hair back?
because i almost have no hair on my hairline and its bothering me. hair is very important to me too lol

Best answer:

Answer by Mo
There is no cure for Alopecia, I read up on it and the only thing that worked on my scalp was Head and Shoulders and that’s just to relieve the irritated skin. I heard that some dermatologist can give you a steroid shot in the balding area but you have to keep getting them. There is’nt anything the doctor can give you to cure it if that’s what you are looking for..

Answer by Lazly Hollyfeld
“Everyone I talked to” does not have a medical degree, nor have they probably looked in to the disease.

You must do your own research and, until you do, trust your doctor to know more than the butcher, the baker, or strangers on Answers know.

i went a doctor from 2 day and he told me that my wisdom teeth are placed wrong pressuring the nerves so it causes hair loss andAlopecia areata … what do u think??.others say hes wrong … btw its on my head 5 spots

Best answer:

Answer by shizzle
he may very well be right:

Researchers of the University of Granada advise to going to the dentist when patients notice localized hair loss in order to have their oral health carefully examined. There is a close relationship between infection outbreaks on teeth and the presence of alopecia areata…

“We have found that bald patches caused by tooth infection are not always in the same place. They normally appear on a line projected from the dental infection and can thus can be located on the face at the level of the maxillary teeth, above a line through the lip-angle to the scalp, beard, or even to the eyebrow. Nevertheless, they can also be located far from infection outbreak.”

Question by Dino P: CURE FOR ALOPECIA AREATA?
is there anything that works on alopecia areata/totalis?

Best answer:

Answer by Smart Cookie
“Because hair usually grows back within a year, you may decide not to treat alopecia areata.

If you choose not to treat the condition and wait for your hair to grow back, you may wish to:

Wear hairpieces or hair weaves. Hairpieces are made from human or synthetic hair that is implanted into a nylon netting. Hairpieces may be attached to the scalp with glue, metal clips, or tape. Hair weaving involves sewing or braiding pieces of longer hair into existing hair.
Use certain hair care products and styling techniques. Hair care products or perms may make hair appear thicker. Dyes may be used to color the scalp. However, continual use of perms or dyes may result in more hair loss.
The most common treatment for patchy hair loss is many injections of corticosteroids into the scalp, about 1cm apart, every 4 to 6 weeks. Limited research reports that hair grows back at the site of injection in some people.

Children and some adults may be treated with topical corticosteroids that are applied to the affected skin. Minoxidil (Rogaine) may be used along with topical corticosteroids.

Contact immunotherapy may be the most effective treatment for severe alopecia areata. A medicine is “painted” on the scalp once a week. This irritates the skin and makes it red and scaly. Hair growth may appear within 3 months of beginning treatment. Studies have shown that half or more of those with severe alopecia areata had a good response, but how much hair grew back varied widely. Side effects of contact immunotherapy include a severe rash ( contact dermatitis) and swollen lymph nodes, especially in the neck.

Psoralen with ultraviolet A light (PUVA) therapy may also be used to treat alopecia areata. PUVA usually is reserved for people who have large areas of skin affected by the disorder or who cannot use other treatments. For PUVA, a medicine, called a psoralen, is used to make the skin more sensitive to ultraviolet A (UVA) light. Then the skin is exposed to UVA light.”

Question by Jess: Help with Alopecia Areata?
I had alopecia Areata because of tin poisoning, But it has been taken care of and I no longer have hair loss.
What I am wondering, is there anything that can make the hair I did lose grow back faster?
Thanks so much for your help!
Also, My hair is already growing back, just very very slowly

Best answer:

Answer by M.D. Alison C
year ago my husband suffered from hair loss too and he started trying everything you can imagine to stop his hair loss. the things that really worked for him was:

1) Vitamin A – an anti-oxidant which promotes healthy production of sebum in the scalp;

2) Vitamin E stimulates circulation. Good blood circulation in the scalp is important in keeping hair follicles productive. The ‘B’ vitamins contribute to melanin, which gives hair its healthy color and also stimulates blood circulation;

3) massage is also beneficial. Massage stimulates circulation. As already noted, good circulation in the scalp keeps hair follicles active. Experts suggest a few minutes of daily head massage by hand. Circulation through massage may be improved by using a few drops of lavender or bay essential oil in an almond or sesame oil base with massage;

4) Try rubbing your scalp with garlic juice, Onion Juice or Ginger Juice(you can either of one out of three, Do not mix any of two or three);

5) also used herbal treatment.in that case Provillus is a good product that helps prevent hair loss and it is an FDA approved product. I think it is very important!

It worked and still works for him!

I do not know if any pharmacies carry Provillus but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here http://www.provillus.com/?aid=749165

It restores hair follicles by blocking DHT!!!

good luck!

not only my and my husband`s own personal experience
